I got to be "The Keeper of the Keys" - The KEYS symbolize the Universal Laws

As a Business Relationship Expert, I have been able to accomplish so much more than I ever dreamed possible. As I move toward the December 8th premiere of “The Keeper of the Keys” – a personal development movie I’m producing – I am amazed at the important role that my business relationships have played in the success and execution of this production.

I put myself in a position to help others. Once you are able to build a reputation for being a “go-to” person, your friends and colleagues will come to you for everything. You will end up getting connected with extremely important people. Keep in mind, however, that your intentions must be pure! The benefit of building great relationships by helping others should never be about ultimately helping yourself … but that IS what is going to happen.

If you aren’t where you want to be, or where you THOUGHT you might be by now, ask yourself: “What can I do for others? How can I help THEM to achieve THEIR goals?” I assure you, it won’t be long before people want to help you in return. Reciprocity makes the world go ’round.

My goal for this movie was to help as many people as possible by showing them how to accept greater responsibility for their lives so they could stop feeling victimized by society, the economy, or even the government. To keep them engaged long enough to enjoy this personal development film, I had to find a way to “take the ‘hell’ out of self-help”!

From the very first moment when I CONCEIVED the idea to produce a personal development movie, I wanted Jack Canfield as the STAR. Because I have worked with him before, included him in my anthology series, “The Power of the Platform”, and have worked hard to get him speaking engagements, he said he would love to be featured in my movie! He knows the caliber of work I produce and knows that I will feature him in a great light. As for Jack’s opinion when I told him that my movie is going to raise the bar on the entire self-help genre by being the first FUNNY, REAL-LIFE movie, he said, “Sounds like fun!” What a gracious man. I adore Jack. It’s true: the bigger they are, the kinder they are. Everyone who knows Jack loves him.

And, speaking of LOVE, my second choice for a star in the movie was Marci Shimoff, whose book “Love for No Reason” made it to the top of many best-seller lists earlier this year. Marci had contributed a chapter to my anthology series and helped me out. I wanted to help her by putting her in what I knew would be an amazing movie. She agreed.

Guess what Marci did for me then? She asked me if I would like her to invite her friend, John Gray, to be in the movie, too! John Gray – who has sold more than 50 Million copies of “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” - is now in my movie. Friends like to help friends. And, I am thrilled to share that he HIT IT OUTTA THE PARK! His explanation of why men and women have trouble understanding each other is pure gold! And now, he shares this wisdom in MY MOVIE! Think I’m excited about THAT?! You betcha! Thanks, Marci!

Think about all the dreams you have … and every lofty goal you’d like to accomplish in this lifetime. I can assure you that doing all you can to help others will come back to you WITH INTEREST. Jack Canfield says we should all learn the 3-letter word that can move mountains: “ASK”! I learned to ask, and I agree with Jack that asking can deliver tremendous results. But, when you remember to ask what YOU can do for OTHERS, that is when you’ll really see your business increase and your life will become more fulfilling than you ever imagined.

An Idea Takes Hold: The Keeper of the Keys movie is Born

If you’ve been following my blog posts on the Las Vegas Convention Speakers Bureau site, then you will know why I’ve been neglectful of my RobinJay.com blog … I’ve been busy producing a personal development movie this year- “The Keeper of the Keys” – starring Jack Canfield, Dr. John Gray, PhD, and Marci Shimoff. These experts are leaders in the field of personal development and it has been thrilling to get to work with them on the movie set. Production finally wrapped last week, and now it’s up to my Director/Editor, Scott Cervine, to work his movie magic.

So – what’s up with the movie? No offense to great authors everywhere, but books are “so yesterday!” Okay, I’m just being flip … let me revise that: “PAPER books are So Yesterday!” Digital readers have taken over the world; iPads, Kindles, Nooks, and various tablets are the RAGE today! And this trend is only going to get bigger. And, today, you can watch a MOVIE on your smart phone (or most of the above tablets.)

I Wanted to EMPOWER More People by Producing an Engaging, Funny Movie That Would Really Help Them to Understand the Universal Laws … or Keys

I became a non-fiction writer because I wanted to help people. It’s easy to see that I will be able to help even MORE people with an engaging, digital format – a MOVIE! Imagine – in just 70 – 75 minutes, you can reach an entire ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE – with a message of empowerment, wrapped up in a package that is entertaining, compelling, and even funny! That is EXACTLY what I am doing this year.

I had the idea to do this when I saw a friend’s movie. I said, “I would LOVE to make a movie, too!” And he said “You could…!” And then he told me how he did it. But, as with everything I do, I wanted to take the project to an even higher level. I asked two of my most popular coauthors, Jack Canfield & Marci Shimoff, if they would agree to appear in it. They said they would. Victory!

Then, I recruited about a dozen other experts from around the world who are amazing, though their names are not as well known as Jack’s or Marci’s. Then, right before filming her segment, Marci asked if we’d like to have John Gray in the movie. OF COURSE we would! And so far, everything has worked out beautifully!

I believed I could produce a movie … and I was even fairly certain I could appear in the movie. (After all, speaking to groups of 500 people takes a certain degree of show biz savoir-faire! ) BUT, I was wise enough to know I needed to hire a director. I invited Scott Cervine, whose production company is Movies From the Heart, to direct. He has produced some truly outstanding personal development movies. Scott brought in an incredible crew, including cinematographer David A. Fisher. Now, with filming wrapped, Scott is busy editing the movie.

I am currently focused on putting together a smashing, over-the-top VIP RED CARPET PREMIERE, on December 8th, at the Brenden Theatres at the Palms Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This premiere is going to be the most incredible event of the year. After all, have you been having enough FUN this year? Seating is limited. A portion of the proceeds will be going to Volunteers in Medicine, Southern Nevada. More details to come soon.

I had a few friends over for dinner last night, including my friends Barry and Louise Berlin. Louise asked if it is okay to use your bread as a “pusher” – as in using it to push the salad onto your fork.

She was surprised when I ran to my bookshelf to retrieve my copy of “Etiquette for Dummies.” I explained that I went to a source because while I was quite certain I knew the answer, I really wanted to be sure … and when it comes to this particular question, I remembered that there are actually several different answers!  That’s the thing about etiquette – different behaviors apply to different situations. MOST of these variations are simply based on the differences between formal and casual settings; bread as a pusher is no exception!

I was able to share with Louise and another friend, Edy, that in a CASUAL setting, it’s okay to use your bread as a PUSHER! BUT – in a more formal setting, it is not. No wonder I couldn’t remember!

It’s funny to me that many people are often too intimidated to dine with me. I try to put them at ease by explaining that I was only able to write my book, “The Art of the Business Lunch” because I had already made every mistake there is to make; why not learn from my experiences? Why must we make every mistake ourselves? But I do know a lot when it comes to etiquette … I even speak on it!

So, where does the FUN come in? We started reading all about bread at the dinner table – how to pass it (to the right), how to take a slice (using the napkin to hold the loaf while you tear off a slice), and how you must put butter on your dish and then butter your bread; never take butter directly from the community plate and put it on your bread.

I think it’s fascinating to read about etiquette and discover all the little nuances that add grace to a client lunch or business dinner. If you’ve ever wondered about exactly what to do, pick up a copy of an etiquette book. You’ll really find it enjoyable and some of the tips are sure to surprise you!

If you’ve ever heard me speak, then you know that my favorite airline is Southwest (SWA). WHY? Because they offer the BEST Customer Service EVER! I speak on building relationships, making people feel special, and the entire customer service experience…and SWA gets it RIGHT!

Sure, a business lunch is great for accomplishing those goals, but we’re not always able to have lunch with clients. Sometimes, it’s the every day experiences that help to define your level of Customer Service.

I recently flew FIRST CLASS on another airline – only because I wanted a red-eye to Ohio. The much-aligned “Cattle Call” of Southwest (which I think is one of the most excellent, well-organized plans for boarding…in fact, many other airlines now copy SWA’s “line-up by number” plan), and subsequent in-flight service I’ve experienced with SWA has been consistently better than the so-called “First Class” service of this other airline!

But I particularly enjoy sharing a memorable experience I had on an SWA flight from LA to Las Vegas – after a VERY long day. I got up around 4AM to speak on The Art of the Business Lunch & Networking at a luncheon in Southern California. I flew in for the day….and by the time my presentation was over and I was at LAX, I just wanted to get home. Watch my video to see why I LOVE SWA!
